Course Summary

We are so excited to announce that Dr. Amy Reichelt is joining our Sweet Sobriety Team as our principal nutritionist. In order to celebrate this collaboration, we are offering our first nutrition course: Enhancing Cognition Through Nutrition: Exploring the Impact of Food on Cognition, Emotions, & Development.

Amy has created an incredibly unique course that will teach you how our food choices actually influence our behaviors & how you think! We already know that food is an addictive substance. In this course, Amy will take a deep dive with you into how food changes brain function. BEYOND the reward system!

Dr. Amy Reichelt has a PhD. in Neuroscience, a BSc with Honors in Psychology & an Advanced Diploma in Nutrition. She is a Certified Health & Nutrition Practitioner who has authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles on food addiction, cognition, brain development, the gut microbiome, & behavior control.

In this comprehensive workshop, participants will embark on a journey to understand the profound relationship between food and mental well-being. From cognition and emotions to the developing mind, we'll explore how food choices influence various aspects of mental health and learn strategies to optimize nutrition for cognitive function, emotional balance, and healthy brain development.

Workshop Objectives:

2.Identify how different foods affect mood regulation and emotional well-being. 
3.Explore the impact of nutrition on the developing mind and strategies to reverse negative effects.

Workshop Agenda:

Session 1: The Brain-Food Connection: Cognition and Nutrition
•Presentation on the intricate relationship between food & cognitive function. 
•Explore how specific nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, & vitamins, influence brain health & cognition. 
•Discuss dietary patterns that have been linked to improved cognitive function

Session 2: Feeding the Mood: Food and Emotional Well-being 
•Presentation on the role of food in regulating mood & emotions.
•Explore the concept of comfort eating, stress eating, & their impact on mental health.
•Discuss the influence of dietary patterns, nutrient deficiencies, & gut health on emotional well-being.
•Discuss practical strategies for incorporating mood-boosting foods into daily meals.

Session 3: Nurturing Young Minds: Nutrition and Brain Development
•Presentation on the critical role of nutrition in brain development during infancy, childhood, & adolescence. 
•Explore how early dietary experiences shape cognitive function, behavior, & mental health outcomes later in life. 
•Discuss interventions & strategies to reverse the negative effects of poor nutrition on brain development.
